Scellec Teca Ltd. is a specialist Teak forestry investment company, offering commercially sustainable responsible investment opportunities in Colombia to institutional investors.
The company was founded in December 2018 in order to acquire farmland and grassland to establish new teak forests to the highest technical and FSC standards. The company’s mission is to create a commercially sustainable Teak sector of excellence in Colombia.

Third Party accreditation: Scellec Teca’s first teak plantation (Sierradentro farm) received FSC certification within one year of planting (certified May 2022). It is currently one of only three FSC certified Teak plantations in Colombia.
Social Impact: The rural areas we work in are very poor with extremely high unemployment rates. Scellec Teca employs over 320 people during the planting seasons, supporting local families and businesses. We also run educational programmes for the local communities in conjunction with the Santo Tomas University’s Social Development Department expertise (Santo Tomas is the oldest University in Colombia).
Best in Class teak: The Scellec Teca nurseries produces best-in-class Colombian Teak seedlings whose provenance is from a Best Of Teak in Colombia identification program carried out in 2009/10.
Environmental Impact: Scellec Teca proactively seeks to maximise carbon sequestration through their land acquisition strategy, and to support biodiversity in the areas that they farm. We protect the natural forest areas in our farms and ensure the continuation of wild life corridors, e.g Jaguars in Magdalena. Specific native trees and in our first farm the conservation and development of the Melipona bee population.
Project I has been a very successful building block to achieving our mission to create a Teak sector of excellence in Colombia as a standard bearer for world class sustainable Tropical High-grade Hardwood forestry investment.
