The Teak Market

DEMAND

Demand is driven by a combination of population growth and an increase in the demand from luxury markets, and from the construction and furniture manufacturing sectors.

SUPPLY

Despite growing demand for teak, supply is negatively affected due to a number of factors. These include export log bans by producing countries, quality deterioration of naturally grown teak, deforestation of natural forests, and overexploitation. This gap between supply and demand for high quality teak is resulting in an increase in real prices.
